Volcano: A vent in the surface of the Earth through which magma and associated gas and ash erupt. Most volcanoes have a cone structure.

Volcanoes are usually mountains or hills formed by the upwelling of molten rock (magma) from below the Earth's crust. Cone-shaped volcanoes are the easiest to spot from space, such as the volcano that appears in the image below. Volcanoes, however, have many different shapes and can be easily hidden within mountain ranges, underwater or on flat terrain as little mole-hills.
