Strait: a relatively narrow passageway connecting two bodies of water

Straits can be found when two large land masses separated by a large body of water come very close together at a point, creating almost two separate bodies of water at each side of the narrow section. The Strait of Gibraltar separating the Mediterranean Sea from the Atlantic Ocean is one popular example. Below is an image of a strait separating a large bay from the Pacific Ocean.
