Mountain Range: area containing many mountains (high areas of land with steep sides and a sharp peak)

A mountain is any piece of land considerably higher than the surrounding land. A range consists of multiple mountains closely related in position, direction, formation and age. Mountain ranges can be spotted from shuttle images as rugged creases in the landscape. Although it is hard to tell just how tall these ranges are when looking down from above, the size of the shadows can determine the relative size of the range. A range with large and numerous shadows is generally larger than a range with smaller, less frequent shadows.
