Plateau: a flat area of land that is higher than the land around it

A relatively elevated area of comparatively flat land is often times very difficult to spot from space. A plateau is almost like a mountain with no peak. Plateaus occur when a flat portion of land has been eroded on all sides, leaving a flat-topped hill.
