Archipelago: a large group of islands

An island is one of the easiest landforms to spot from space. Islands are pieces of land smaller than continents that are surrounded by a body of water, including oceans, seas, lakes and rivers. An archipelago is simply a group of islands. An example of this can be seen in the image below. Off the southern coast of the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, the Sir Joseph Banks Group of Islands are a major attraction. These islands are the home of colonies of seals and other wildlife.
