The area of Las Vegas was named for the artesian springs in which created extensive green areas in contrast to the surrounding desert, and was first settled in 1854 by Mormon farmers. Due to the springs, Las Vegas became a water stop for wagons trains, and later railroads on the trail between Los Angeles and points to the east. As a result of the development of large hotels in conjunction with casinos, Las Vegas has grown into “The Entertainment Capital of the World”.
