  Benefits of ISS EarthKAM in the Classroom

ISS EarthKAM offers a powerful way for students to investigate Earth from the unique perspective of space. The image library and accompanying learning guides and activities are available to the public and offer support for classes in Earth science, space science, geography, social studies, mathematics, communications, and even art.
As participants in ISS EarthKAM, students learn:
  • basic concepts of Earth science and geography;
  • how to explore and identify images;
  • team-building, problem-solving and communication skills; and
  • other skills and subjects based on local instructional priorities.
Standards for Students

Using ISS EarthKAM images and materials, students can learn a lot about areas addressed in the National Science Education Standards: Students can also develop skills relating to the National Math Education Standards and the National Geography Education Standards.

Standards for Teachers

ISS EarthKAM supports many of the National Science Education Teaching Standards. Opportunities for skill development include:
  • using images as a resource for teaching and learning;
  • integrating science, math, technology and geography; and
  • using tools of telecommunications.
