Overview:

Participating schools will create a collaborative investigation about climate change using EarthKAM images. Each classroom should focus their investigation on a specific topic (suggested topics below). The investigation should include background research and supporting images. The entire project must be submitted electronically. The EarthKAM team will evaluate the submitted investigations based on content, creativity and overall presentation. Prizes will be awarded for the best projects and the winning projects will be posted on our EarthKAM website. Prizes will include, but not be limited to, EarthKAM 2008 Calendars and poster-sized EarthKAM images of your choice.

Topics:

When choosing a topic for your investigation, consider issues that are relevant to your local community. Below is a list of suggestions, but feel free to explore other areas of interest.

  1. Land Use
    • Deforestation
    • Agriculture, Irrigation
    • Urbanization
  2. Effects of Pollution
    • Greenhouse gases
    • Smog
  3. Water
    • Ocean temperature
    • Coral reef destruction
    • Changing water levels

Questions to Answer in Investigations:
  1. How current is the topic? How can changes be seen in our environment? Explain. (Find images to depict examples)
  2. What can you do to help with the topic? (Example: How do we slow down/prevent deforestation?)
  3. Who is affected most by this issue? What areas of the world are effected? (Local community, global issue, rainforests...etc)
  4. Why is it important to know about the effects of your topic?
